Effingham High School watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-2 loss to Shelbyville in high school baseball action Wednesday.

The Rams took a 1-0 opening inning lead on a single by McDonald.

Shelbyville tacked on two runs in the third before the Hearts scored runs in the fourth and fifth to pull within 3-2.

But Shelbyville came back to put the contest away with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

The Rams had 11 hits led by McDonald with three singles, Trimble with a single and double, Brachbill with two singles and two RBI and Allen with two singles.

Effingham had four hits led by Myles Maxedon with two singles and John Harper with a single and an RBI.

Shelbyville's Brachbill threw a four-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Andrew Donaldson took the loss for the Hearts going three innings, allowing three runs on four hits, one walk and striking out one.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fashioned a nine-hit attack to hand Paris an 11-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Wednesday.

The Hatchets edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead. Paris tied in the top of the second but WSS came back in the bottom of the frame with four runs.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then scored four more in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Carter Chaney picked up the victory on the mound, going three innings, allowing one run on one hit, three walks and striking out five. Connor Manhart came on to throw the final two innings, allowing no runs on no hits and one walk.

Tyler Wetherell had two singles and drove in three runs while Chaney had two singles. Kendall Morris had a single and two RBI while Jordan Wittenberg and Colten Bridges had a single and an RBI each.
