Effingham High School had a three-run third and finished off with a run in the sixth for a 4-1 victory over Altamont Tuesday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Hearts and Indians both rumbled in the first inning but neither team could bring their on-base runners home.

EHS' Kaden Nichols led off by drawing a walk. With one out, John Harper and Camden Raddatz had back-to-back singles to load the bases. But Altamont toughened up as Mason Robinson got a strikeout and the third out was a ground out.

Altamont's Nathan Stuemke drew a walk to start the inning. With one out, Jared Hammer drew a walk. But both runners were left stranded on two fly ball outs.

Both teams then went up and down in the second inning.

In the third, Effingham broke loose with three singles. Lead-off hitter Nichols singled and Spencer Fox reached base on an error. Harper then singled home a run. A wild pitch brought Fox home and another single, this one by Raddatz, brought home the third run.

Altamont answered back with a run in the bottom of the fourth as Jared Hammer knocked out a home run. Kaidyn Miller reached on a double, Wyatt Phillips drew a walk and Dillan Elam was hit by a pitch. But the Hearts got out of the frame without further damage with a strikeout and two fly balls to first base.

It was quiet through the fifth before the Hearts scored a final run in the sixth. Kaden Koberlein drew a walk and eventually came home on a wild pitch.

Effingham had five hits while Altamont finished with four. Nichols was the winning pitcher for the Hearts, going four innings, allowing one run on three hits, four walks and striking out two.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony had an easy time in downing Flora by a 16-2 count in five innings Tuesday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead and led 3-2 after two. But St. Anthony started rolling and scored 10 runs in the third and finished with three in the fourth.

St. Anthony had 12 hits in the contest and was aided by six Flora errors.

Leading the way offensively were Eli Levitt with a single, double, home run and three RBI while Connor Roepke finished with two singles, a double and two RBI. Aiden Lauritzen added two singles and three RBI while Beau Adams had two singles. Brock Fearday and Will Fearday had a single and an RBI each. Brock Jansen finished with two RBI.

Jansen finished with the win on the mound, going the final three innings, allowing no runs on no hits, two walks while striking out five. Lauritzen went the first two innings allowing two runs on three hits, four walks and one strikeout.

At St. Anthony

At Farina

South Central opened with a 5-0 first inning lead over Mulberry Grove and ended the game in the fourth inning, 15-0 Tuesday.

Ethan Dunn picked up the win on the mound, going the first three innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.

The Cougars finished the offensive barrage with 15 hits. Ethan Watwood had a single, double and three RBI while Aiden Dodson had a single, double and an RBI. Chase Thompson had a double and an RBI. Dunn aided the cause with two singles and an RBI and Brody Markley had two singles. Andrew Magnus and Colton Smith finished with a single and an RBI each.

Mulberry Grove committed four errors and gave up five walks.

At Kinmundy

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis broke a 4-4 opening inning tie with a four-run second and went on to down Breese Mater Dei, 10-5 Tuesday.

Both teams had six hits in the contest. The Wooden Shoes were led by Garrett Gaddis with a single and double, Evan Waldhoff with two singles and two RBI and Caleb Siemer with a double and two RBI.

Logan Lawson threw four innings, allowing five runs on four hits, four walks and striking out two for the win on the mound.

Conner Hoelscher went two innings allowing two hits, one walk and one strikeout and C. Siemer finished out the final inning allowing two walks and striking out two.

T-town improved to 2-1 on the season while Mater Dei dropped to 2-3.

At Teutopolis

At Neoga

Neoga hosted Brownstown/St. Elmo and claimed a 9-6 win in action Tuesday.

The Indians held a 2-0 first inning lead, then tacked on two more in the second and third inning and led 7-0 after four. BSE came back with two runs in the fifth but Neoga answered with two in the bottom of the sixth. BSE then had a four-run sixth but fell short.

BSE outhit Neoga by a 10-6 count but had four errors.

Trey Sheehan had three singles for the winners while Matt Propst had a double. Brady Reynolds had a single and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Wyatt Forbes with a double and two RBI, Adam Atwood with two singles and Jarrett Pasley with two singles and an RBI.

At Neoga

At Windsor

Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg edged Newton by a 7-6 count in Tuesday action.

The Hatchets took a 2-1 first inning lead but Newton moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the third. WSS tied in the bottom of the frame but again the Eagles pushed ahead 4-3 in the fourth.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then had a four-run fifth and held off a sixth inning challenge by the Eagles for the win.

Newton outhit WSS by a 9-7 count.

The Hatchets were led by Austin Wittenberg with a single and double, Kendall Morris with two singles, Jackson Gurgel with a single and two RBI and Jordan Wittenberg with two RBI.

Newton was led by Isaac Flowers with a single, two doubles and an RBI and Carder Reich with three singles and three RBI. Marc Jansen had a single and an RBI.

At Windsor

North Clay/Clay City moved ahead in the fourth inning then held off a final inning challenge from Dieterich for a 10-7 victory Tuesday.

Dieterich held a 2-1 lead in the third before the Cardinals tallied three in the fourth and six in the fifth. The Movin' Maroons mounted a five-run seventh inning challenge only to fall short.

North Clay/Clay City had 10 hits in the game led by Logan Fleener with two doubles and an RBI, Alex Boose and Ayden Jones with two singles and three RBI each, Ian Jones with a double and an RBI and Carder Walden with a double.

The Cardinals used five pitchers in the contest that allowed a total of seven hits but had 13 strikeouts. Boose was the starter, going three innings allowing two runs on two hits, four walks and striking out seven. Ian Jones came on in the fourth with one strikeout.

At Louisville
