ALTAMONT -- South Central trailed Altamont until the fifth inning, then tied the score and won the game 10-8 with two runs in the sixth in high school baseball action Monday.

The Cougars tallied three runs to move ahead 3-0 in the second inning. But Altamont came back to tie the score in the fourth.

The Indians then had a five-run fourth to lead 8-3. But that didn't last long as the Cougars knotted the score with a five-run fifth.

South Central had nine hits in the contest led by Aidan Dodson with a single, double and two RBI and Brody Markley with a single and double. Chase Thompson and Anthony Buonaura had a single and two RBI each. Andrew Magnus had a single and drove in a run.

Buonaura picked up the win on the mound, allowing eight runs on four hits, one walk while striking out 11.

Altamont was led by Nathan Stuemke with a single, double and two RBI and Mason Robinson with a double and three RBI. Wyatt Phillips added a single and two RBI.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony edged Salem by a 2-1 count in Monday action.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie through four innings before the Bulldogs moved ahead with a run in the fifth.

Salem tied in the top of the seventh but the Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the frame to win.

The Bulldogs had only three hits in the contest. Eli Levitt had a single and an RBI while Aiden Lauritzen and Brock Jansen had a single each. Beau Adams had an RBI.

Brock Fearday went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on seven hits, one walk while striking out eight.

At Broadlands

Neoga easily handled Heritage Broadlands by a 24-0 count in four innings Monday.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then had an eight-run second, a four-run third and finished the game in the fourth with 11 

Bryar Hennesay was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and striking out five. Josiah Gentry came on to finish out the next two innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out five.

Neoga banged out 16 hits in the contest led by Ryan Koester with two doubles and two RBI, Malachi Staszak with a single, double and four RBI, Brady Reynolds with two singles and three RBI, Quintin Richards with two singles and an RBI, Colin Blazich with a double and an RBI, Trey Sheehan with a single and three RBI and Micah Staszak with a single and two RBI.

At Mahomet

Teutopolis High School couldn't overcome Blake Wolters Monday and fell to Mahomet-Seymour, 9-3.

Wolters hit a single, two home runs and drove in five runs. He also held the Wooden Shoes in check on the mound for four innings.

Wolters allowed one hit, no walks while striking out 11 Wooden Shoes.

Mahomet-Seymour had six hits in the contest and tallied a run in the first, five in the second and three in the fourth.

T-town was led by Bennet Thompson with two singles.

The Shoes committed one error and gave up 10 walks.

Charleston High School held off Newton for a 3-2 victory Monday.

The Trojans were the first to score in the contest in the fifth inning with two runs.

Newton scored a run in the top of the sixth but the Trojans answered back in the bottom of the frame for a 3-1 lead.

The Eagles mounted a comeback in the seventh only to fall a run short.

Newton had three hits led by Owen Mahaffey with a solo home run and Carder Reich with a single and an RBI.
