BEECHER CITY -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Mattoon St. John's while Neoga won over Altamont in the semifinals of the Class 1A Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Baseball Regional Saturday.

CHBC fell behind early and couldn't come back in the 12-1 loss.

Mattoon St. John's pitchers allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out 13 Bobcats. St. John's had seven hits in the contest and were aided by nine CHBC errors.

Porter Lilly, Griffin Vaughn and Connor Vaughn each collected one hit. CHBC finished the season at 13-11.

Neoga blanked Altamont 15-0 in the other contest. Neoga advanced to the championship game to face Mattoon St. John's Monday.

 

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Jasper County advanced to the championship game of the Casey-Westfield Regional with a 4-0 win over host Casey-Westfield Saturday.

Jasper County tallied single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Cade Clark threw a one-hitter with one walk while striking out 13.

The winners had five hits, all singles by Hayden Mulvey with a a single and an RBI, Cade Clark, Eli Wolf, Jacob Oldham with a single each and Henry Will. Brock Anderson added an RBI each.

In the other contest, Cumberland won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 7-2. Cumberland and Jasper County square off Monday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Teutopolis

Teutopolis advanced to the championship game with a 7-1 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

WSS held a 1-0 lead in the third inning and held that until the fifth when Teutopolis scored three runs then tacked on four runs in the sixth.

The Wooden Shoes had nine hits led by R. Bloemer with a single and double, T. Pals with two singles, A. Lustig and C. Cornell had a double and two RBi each and H. Tebbe with a single and two RBI.

Bible led WSS with two singles and Spour had a single and an RBI.

Teutopolis advances to the championship game against South Central, an 8-4 winner over Shelbyville Moulton, at 4 p.m. Monday.

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham moved into the championship game with a 10-9 win over Tolono Unity in a slight upset Saturday.

The Mustangs, seeded third, took down the second-seeded Unity by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning after trailing 9-3 going into that inning.

Effingham had 14 hits led by Carter Braddy with four singles, Jenner Pals and Hank Nelson with two singles and an RBI each. Andrew Leonard had a single, triple and two RBI. T.J. Raddatz and James Wendt had a double and two RBI each.

Westin Hayes picked up the pitching win, going the last three innings allowing six runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
