St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and catcher Yadier Molina made their 324th career start together Thursday, tying the MLB record for batterymates set by the Detroit Tigers’ Mickey Louch and Bill Freehanrom 1963 to 1975.

St. Louis lost 11-6 to the Washington Nationals. Wainwright and Molina made their first start together in 2007.

MLB Set To Adopt Rules Changes

Major League Baseball’s competition committee is set to adopt rules changes today meant to shorten games and increase offense.

A pitch clock will count down 15 seconds with no runners on and 20 seconds with runners. A shift limit will require four players to be in front of the outfield grass when a pitch is thrown, including two of them on either side of second base.

There will be a limit during each plate appearance of two pickoff attempts or steps off the rubber by pitchers. The size of bases will increase to 18-inch square from 15 to reduce injuries and increase stolen bases.
