A six-run first inning outburst propelled the St. Anthony Bulldogs to an 8-0 baseball win Wednesday night over the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes. The game at Paul Smith Field at Community Park in Effingham was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Bulldogs got a leadoff double from Beau Adams in the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run homer over the left field fence by Eli Levitt. After a strikeout, Will Hoene singled and Connor Roepke doubled Hoene to third. Aiden Lauritzen walked to load the bases, then Sam Link doubled home Hoene and Roepke to make it 4-0. Brock Jansen reached on a base hit and Lauritzen scored, then Max Koenig laid down a great sacrifice bunt to bring home Link with the sixth run of the inning.

Despite many runners on base, the contest remained 6-0 until the sixth inning, when the Bulldogs padded their lead.

Nick Ruholl worked a leadoff walk and, after a flyout, Adams doubled Ruholl home to make it 7-0 and one out later, Brock Fearday doubled Adams home to account for the final run of the contest.

It was a frustrating night offensively for the Wooden Shoes as they were shut out despite leaving 11 runners on base.

Brock Jansen started the game for the Bulldogs, pitching into the third inning and allowing four walks and two hits before being lifted for Ruholl. Ruholl pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts before being replaced by Link. He pitched the final two innings, walking one and fanning one.

Caleb Siemer started for Teutopolis and gave up six runs in 1-1/3 innings, allowing six runs on just four hits, walking one and striking out a batter. Zac Niebrugge pitched the final 4-2/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk.
