Johnson, Well Named All-Region For SIUE

GREENSBORO, N.C. – SIUE baseball garnered a pair of All-Region honorees as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Wednesday. Brett Johnson (Joliet, Illinois) and Richie Well (Vandalia, Illinois) both were named to the Midwest Region second team.

Both enjoyed record-setting individual seasons to help SIUE to its most successful Division I season to date.

"This is a well-deserved honor for both of them," SIUE Head Coach Sean Lyons said. "I am glad to see them rewarded for tremendous seasons."
Johnson, a first team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, started all 55 games in centerfield and was second on the team with a .350 batting average. He set the single-season school record for home runs in a season with 23 and drove in 63 runs, establishing a new single-season benchmark at the Division I level. He finished second in the league and currently ranks 15th in the NCAA in total home runs. He is ninth in the nation in home runs per game (0.42/game). He led the league in slugging percentage at .765 which ranks ninth in the NCAA and is the best in a Division I season at SIUE.

Well played in 54 games, making 52 starts at three different positions. Well was fifth on the team in batting average at .316 while hammering out 19 doubles to tie for second in the OVC and establish a new single-season school record at the Division I level. Well earned SIUE baseball's first-ever selection to the OVC All-Tournament team after hitting .500 (8-16) with a pair of home runs and eight RBIs in four tournament games.

The Cougars finished the year with 27 wins, tied for second most in a season at the Division I level. The Cougars won a pair of games at the OVC Tournament, the first wins for SIUE at the Championship.
