The Effingham Flaming Hearts baseball season came to an end Wednesday evening as they fell 10-1 to Mascoutah in the semifinals of the Troy Triad 3A Sectional. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, but that's when Mascoutah scored five times on a combination of hits, walks and stolen bases.

The Indians were never headed, adding a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and a run in the seventh.

Effingham scored their lone run in the fourth inning, when Kaiden Nichols led off with a walk. Spencer Fox sacrificed Nichols into scoring position and Jack Harper singled Nichols home. That was the only time the Hearts could dent the scoreboard.

Harper finished with two singles while Myles Maxedon had a triple and Max Hardiek, Quest Hull and Max Nelson had a single each.

The Hearts wrap up the season with a 17-13 record and a regional championship.

Mascoutah, meanwhile, improved to 26-6 and will play Troy Triad Saturday at 11am for the sectional championship. Triad beat Mt. Vernon 1-0 in the opening semifinal game Wednesday.
