LOUISVILLE -- North Clay (Louisville) broke a 4-4 tie with a seven-run fifth and went on to down Effingham 13-7 in high school baseball competition Thursday.

The Cardinals edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead but the Hearts came back with three in the second to lead 4-3. Evan Waymoth singled to score two runs for EHS. In the bottom of the third, North Clay tied things up at four when Bryton Griffy doubled on the first pitch, scoring the run.

Clifton led the Cardinals to victory on the mound. The ace allowed no runs, one hit, striking out four and walking one in three innings. Donnie Zimmerman and Griffy came out of the bullpen to finish off the final two innings.

The Cardinals hit long twice in the contest as Weidner nailed a double, home run and drove in five while Brady Ingram had three singles, a home run and four RBI. Carson Burkett had two singles, Collyn Ballard had a single and double and Griffy had a single, double and an RBI. Zimmerman added a double. North Clay improved to 13-1 on the season.

John Harper hit the long ball in the first inning for the Hearts and also had a double. Kaiden Nichols had a double and three RBI and Joe Matteson a double and an RBI, Max Hardiek added two singles and Evan Waymoth had a single and two RBI.

At Dieterich

Teutopolis stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Dieterich 17-0 in four innings Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes had 10 hits and were aided by five Movin' Maroons errors.

Jonathan Kemme and Derek Konkel had a double and an RBI each for the Shoes. Caleb Siemer and Garrett Gaddis had two singles and two RBI each. Joey Niebrugge added a single and two RBI, Brayden Gaddis a single and an RBI and Luke Koester and Sam Bushur an RBI each.

Dieterich had three hits, all singles by Noah Dill, Pete Britton and Kaden Iffert.

Dylan Pruemer was the winner, going three innings, allowing no runs on two hits, one walk and striking out three. T-town improves to 7-5 while Dieterich dropped to 2-12.

T-town is back in action at Charleston Monday while Dieterich returns to action Monday hosting Odin.

At Toledo

Cumberland took a first inning lead but Neoga came back to claim a 7-2 victory Thursday.

The Indians had a five-run fourth then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Neoga had nine hits in the contest led by M. Staszak with a single, double and an RBI, Will O'Dell with two singles and Trey Sheehan with a double and an RBI.

Luke Romack was the winning pitcher, throwing three innings allowing one run on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Cumberland had five hits led by Maddox McElravy with a single and double and Gavin Hendrix with a single and an RBI.

At Toledo

At Sauget

South Central handed Greenville a 13-4 loss at GCS Stadium in Sauget Thursday.

Greenville held a 4-0 first inning lead but the Cougars came back with a run in the second, two in the third and tied the score at 4-4 in the fourth. South Central then put the game away with a six-run fifth and tacked on three more runs in the seventh.

South Central had 12 hits led by Aidan Dodson with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Beau Jolliff with a single, double and three RBI, Andrew Magnus with two singles and an RBI and Chase Thompson, Anthony Buonaura and Ethan Dunn with a double each. Buonaura had two RBI while Thompson had one. Spencer Johannes added a single and drove in two runs and Jon Bursott had an RBI.

Johannes picked up the win, going three innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out two.

At Sauget

Newton broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run fifth and went on to claim a 6-1 win over Marshall Thursday.

The Eagles had nine hits in the contest led by Isaac Flowers with two doubles and four RBI, Mason Mulvey and Mason Schafer with a double and an RBI each. Gage Reynolds had two singles.

Carder Reich went the distance on the mound allowing one run on two hits, two walks while striking out 11.
