Bulldogs Capture Two Wins, Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony easily tallied two high school baseball victories Saturday at the Tuscola Invitational.

The Bulldogs played Lanark Eastland and won in five innings, 11-1.

St. Anthony's Brady Hatton went five innings on the mound, allowing one run on five hits, two walks while striking out 11.

Hatton also aided his own cause with a solo home run. Will Hoene had a home run and four RBI while Connor Roepke chipped in with two singles and two RBI and Colton Fearday had two singles.

St. Anthony then pounded Tuscola 18-5 in six innings.

The Bulldogs banged out 15 hits in the contest led by Brock Fearday with two singles, a home run and three RBI while Brock Jansen had two singles, a double and four RBI. C. Fearday two singles and three RBI, Angelo Mendella added a single and double and Eli Levitt a double and two RBI. Samuel Link and Will Hoene had a single and two RBI each.

B. Fearday went five innings allowing five runs on five hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.

At Effingham

Mahomet-Seymour tallied an Apollo Conference doubleheader victory over Effingham Saturday.

In the opener, the Hearts held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning then Mahomet-Seymour tied. Joe Matteson singled, scoring the run in the second.

The Bulldogs moved ahead 3-2 but the Hearts tied in the bottom of the seventh when Coursin threw a wild pitch allowing the tying run to score.

Mahomet-Seymour came back with two runs in the eighth to pull out the 5-3 victory. Coursin ended up the winning pitcher going 1.2 innings allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

The Hearts had only two hits, a double by Quest Hull and a single by Joe Matteson.

In the second contest, Mahomet-Seymour scored a run in the first and tacked on four in the fifth and four in the sixth for the 9-0 victory.

The Hearts finished with four hits, a double by Matteson and singles by John Harper, Camden Raddatz and Kaiden Nichols.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up one victory and suffered two losses in weekend action.

The Wooden Shoes fell to visiting Flora in Friday play, 9-2. The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 lead after one inning but Flora came back to score over the next three innings to lead 4-1. T-town added a run in the fifth. Flora finished out with five in the seventh.

Sam Bushur led the way in hitting for the Shoes with three singles.

In a doubleheader at Salem Saturday, the Widlcats won the opener, 5-4 by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

T-town opened with four runs in the first. Salem tallied one in the fifth.

Mitch Althoff hit a two-run homer while Joey Niebrugge had a solo shot. Garrett Gaddis and Cade Buehnerkemper had two singles each and Dylan Pruemer had two singles and an RBI.

Kayden Althoff was the winner behind a 12-strikeout contest on the mound. He gave up three hits and three walks.

In the second game, T-town blanked the Wildcats, 3-0. The Shoes tallied two in the second and one in the fifth.

Sam Bushur went the distance on the mound allowing three hits, two walks while striking out five.

Bushur also led the way offensively with three singles. Caleb Siemer had a double and drove in two runs while Derek Konkel added a double.

T-town improved to 6-4 on the season while Salem dropped to 4-11.

At Carlyle

South Central blanked Carlyle in a Friday contest, 13-0 in six innings.

The Cougars had one run innings in the first, third and fourth, four in the fifth and ended the contest with six in the sixth.

South Central had nine hits that included five doubles. Beau Jolliff had a single, double and two RBI, Spencer Johannes a single and double, Ethan Watwood a double and three RBI, Anthony Buonaura a double and an RBI and Chase Thompson a double.

Buonaura went two innings for the win, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two. Johannes came on to throw the final four innings allowing two hits, one walk while striking out seven.

In Saturday action, South Central played in the Breese Central Round Robin. In the opener, Breese Central was a 12-3 winner over the Cougars.

South Central took a 1-0 lead and held it until the third inning when Central scored three runs and never looked back.

South Central had three hits led by Aiden Dodson with a double.

In the second game, South Central edged Casey-Westfield, 4-3. The Warriors held a 1-0 lead until South Central scored three in the fourth and finished out with one in the top of the fifth. Casey-Westfield came back with two in the bottom of the frame.

Thompson had two doubles and drove in a run. Buonaura had a double and two RBI and Joliff two singles and an RBI.

Newton had a big hitting contest in downing Altamont in a Friday game, 10-2.

The Eagles' offense included 14 hits. Carder Reich had a single, double and an RBI, Isaac Flowers a double and two RBI, Mason Mulvey a double, Owen Mahaffey a triple and two RBI, Daniel Spiker three singles, Mason Schafer two singles and an RBI and Ben Meinhart two singles.

Brandon Einhorn threw the win on the mound going 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Tyler Robbins had a double and an RBI for Altamont while Nathan Stuemke added two singles.

Altamont ran off to an 11-0 opening inning lead on Fairfield and ended the game in the fifth inning, 15-0.

Mason Robinson threw a two-hitter, going all five innings, allowing four walks while striking out seven.

Offensively, the Indians were led by Robbins with a single, two doubles and four RBI, Jared Hammer with a home run and three RBI, Nathan Stuemke and Robinson with two singles and two RBI each and Nathan Sehpard with a double and an RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored early and late in a 3-1 victory over Casey-Westfield Friday.

Gavan Wernsing was the winning pitcher, throwing a no-hitter through four innings allowing one walk while striking out 10. Samuel Vonderheide came on to throw the next three innings, alowing one run on two hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

The Hatchets tallied a single run in the second and scored two more in the sixth. 

Carter Chaney had a double and drove in a run while Graham Kasey had two singles and an RBI. Wernsing had a double.

CHBC had four hits, all singles by Silas Buzzard with an RBI, Clayton Wojcik, Wes Radloff and Wyatt Rueff.

Buzzard was the winner on the mound.

Dieterich had six hits, all singles by Noah Dill, Garrett Niebrugge, Pete Britton, Kolton Kidd, Austin Ruholl and Lucas Westendorf.

Dieterich blanked Sullivan by a 4-0 count. The Movin' Maroons had three runs in the third and tallied the final one in the sixth.

Dieterich had only one hit while Sullivan put together five. Britton had a single. Jaxon Funneman had two RBI and Westendorf one.

Tri-County tallied single runs in the second, sixth and seventh around two in the fifth.

Brownstown/St. Elmo fell twice in Saturday action.

Vandalia claimed the opener by an 8-3 count. The Vandals held a 1-0 lead in the second. BSE tied in the top of the third but Vandalia came back in the bottom of the frame with three and never looked back.

BSE had six hits led by Adam Atwood with a double, Dalton Myers with two singles and two RBI and Lukas Miller with two singles.

In the second game, Nokomis was a 22-8 winner. Nokomis had 19 hits in the contest while BSE had 10.

Atwood had two singles and a double for BSE while Myers had two singles and an RBI and Kyle Behl two singles. Jarrett Pasley had a single and two RBI.

BSE is now 3-3 on the season and is back in action Tuesday at Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville.
