The St. Louis Cardinals plan to hire Oliver Marmol as their new manager, according to media reports Sunday night, after he was their bench coach for the past two seasons.

The 35-year-old would be the youngest active Major League Baseball manager and the youngest to manage any team on Opening Day since 2003.

Mike Shildt was fired as the team’s manager earlier this month, after their playoff loss to the L.A. Dodgers.
