SIGEL -- It will be Effingham St. Anthony and Neoga competing for the championship of the Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Baseball Regional after both teams picked up victories Saturday.

The Bullpups tallied an easy 18-3 win over Findlay Okaw Valley in three innings.

St. Anthony banged out 11 hits led by H. Brent with two singles, a double and three RBI, H. Bushur with a triple and three RBI and G. Wilhour with two singles and three RBI.

A. Lauritzen was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing one run on two hits, no walks while striking out six.

Neoga handed Sigel St. Michael an 11-3 loss in the second contest.

Neoga moved into a 6-0 lead in the second then added on a single run in the third and four in the sixth.

The winners had nine hits led by Haarman with two singles and four RBI, Coy with two singles and two RBI, Hakman with two singles and an RBI and Hanfland with a single and two RBI.

Coy was the winner on the mound, going five innings allowing three runs on five hits, four walks and six strikeouts.

St. Michael was led by B. Niebrugge with a double, D. Worman with two singles and an RBI and D. McKinney with two singles and two RBI.

St. Anthony faces Neoga today at 4:30 p.m. for the championship, weather permitting.

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart and Dieterich moved into the championship game of the Oblong Regional Saturday.

The Shamrocks edged Newton St. Thomas, 5-4 in the opener.

In the second contest, Dieterich trounced North Clay (Louisville) 12-5.

Sacred Heart and Dieterich square off, weather permitting, today at 4:30 p.m. for the championship.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis moved into the title contest of its own regional by downing Cumberland, 5-1 Saturday.

Cumberland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth. T-town moved ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the frame and that was the game.

Bloemer had a double for the Shoes while Grunloh had a single and two RBI and Kreke, Wendt and Thoele a single and an RBI each.

In the second game, Stewardson-Strasburg edged South Central, 4-3.

Stew-Stras held a 1-0 lead in the third then tacked on three more in the fifth. South Central came back with three in the sixth only to fall short.

Stew-Stras had four hits, all singles by Beals, Washer with an RBI, Tingley and Wetherell.

Sayers went 5.1 innings allowing one run on two hits, two walks and nine strikeouts.

South Central was led by Colt Cartright with two singles and Trevan Sidwell with a single and an RBI.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham saw its season come to an end in the Charleston Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs fell to Tolono Unity, 8-2.

In the second game, Charleston was a 10-3 winner over Mattoon.

Tolono Unity will now face Charleston at 4:15 p.m. today, weather permitting, for the championship.
