The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, down to their last strike on three consecutive batters, scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to send their game with the North Clay Cardinals to extra innings, then scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to win the contest 5-4.

The contest, heard on KJ Country 102.3, was the first loss of the season for North Clay, now 14-1 on the fall.

North Clay scored a run in each of the first three innings, but Teutopolis plated runs in the third and fourth innings to pull within 3-2. The Cardinals scored in the fifth to make it 4-2, but then came the Wooden Shoes' late inning heroics.

Talk about your scoring chances; the teams had a combined 28 runners left on base. The teams also had a combined nine errors; five by North Clay.

The winning run scored when Kayden Althoff doubled with one out. The Cardinals then intentionally walked Derek Konkel. Logan Roepke hit a ball to shortstop and a misplay led to an error that loaded the bases. Dylan Pruemer then hit a missile to left field that was caught by the Cardinals' Donnie Zimmerman, but the ball was hit too deep to get a throw home in time to make a play on Kayden Althoff who dove headfirst across home plate with the winning run.

Cade Buehnerkemper got the win for Teutopolis with 2-1/3 innings of relief. He followed Konkel who reached his pitch count after throwing 5-2/3 innings.

Collyn Ballard pitched the first three innings for North Clay, allowing a home run to left by Konkel. Alex Boose threw two innings and gave up a run. Layton Dawkins pitched the final 2-2/3 innings, allowing three runs.
