Effingham Sacred Heart beat Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in a junior high baseball contest Friday, 1-0.

Austin Borries threw seven innings of shutout ball to hold WSS to only two hits. The Shamrock offense scored the only run of the game in the first after William Hecht walked and reached second on a passed ball. Jude Traub singled on a 2-2 count resulting in Hecht scoring.

Borries recorded 18 strikeouts facing only three over the minimum. The Shamrocks tallied six hits during the game. Hecht finished with two singles.

WSS had two hits, singles by Beals and Sayers. Verdeyen picked up the pitching loss, allowing only four hits.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 9-4 victory over Dieterich in Friday action.

The Bullpups stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead then added on three in the second to lead 6-1.

St. Anthony pounded out 10 hits led by A. Lauritzen with two singles and a double, K. Griffith with a single, two double sand two RBI and H. Brent with a single and two RBI.

Hall had three singles and a double for Dieterich while Meyer had three singles and two RBI.

 At Morton Invitational

Effingham competed in the Morton Invitational Friday and Saturday.

In game one, Pleasant Plains tallied a 7-3 win over the Mustangs.The score was tied at 2-2 after five innings before Pleasant Plains moved ahead with three in the sixth and finished out with two in the seventh.

Carter Braddy led the Mustangs with a single, doubleand an RBI and Brayden Tucker with two singles.

In the second game, Chatham Glenwood downed Effingham, 11-2. Effingham had three hits, singles by Wyatt Hayes, Brody Boehm and Max Flack. Wade Bushur had an RBI.

At Mulberry Grove

In a Friday contest, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City banged out 11 hits and brought home 17 runs in a 17-6 win over Mulberry Grove.

CHBC's August Cosart got the win on the mound while Clive Schlanser picked up the save.

Schlanser had three singles and drove in three runs while Carter Dilley had a single, home run and three RBI. Connor Vaughn had two singles and Kale Hardimon two singles and two RBI.

CHBC then competed in the Altamont Lutheran Tournament Saturday and had a loss and a win.

CHBC fell to Central City 5-2. Central City held a 3-2 lead after two before tacking on two more in the third.

CHBC had two hits led by Cosart with a single and Porter Lilly with a single and an RBI.

CHBC then tallied a 10-3 win over Selmaville. Selmaville held a 2-0 lead after the first. CHBC tallied one in the second, two in third and two in the fourth and five in the fifth.

CHBC had seven hits led by Dilley with two doubles and four RBI. Cosart and Schlanser had two singles each. Cosart had two RBI.

CHBC is now 3-5 on the season and returns to action today at Sigel St. Michael.

South Central trailed North Clay (Louisville) 1-0 until the third inning and 4-3 through five. South Central then rallied with five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh for an 11-4 victory.

South Central had six hits led by Chase Guerrettaz with a double nd two RBI, Sidwell with a single and three RBI, Luke Shumate with two singles and Hudson Moore with a single and two RBI.

In a Saturday contest, North Clay fell to Flora, 7-5 to drop to 1-4 on the season.

Newton St. Thomas edged Sigel St. Michael, 8-7 in a Friday game.

St. Michael held a 5-4 lead after four innings before St. Thomas tied in the bottom of the fifth. The score was knotted at 6-6 after six innings and the Sharpshooters took a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh. However, St. Thomas rallied with two runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out the victory.

Wade Ochs led the way for the winners with three singles, a triple and two RBI. Carson Barthelme had two singles and three RBI. Grady Michl had two singles. The Saints improved to 2-1 on the season.

St. Michael was led by Dane McKinney with two singles and three RBI and Lyncoln Dittamore with two singles and an RBI. Mason Platz added two RBI.

Teutopolis took the early lead and ended this game over Taylorville in three innings, 17-2.

The Wooden Shoes had a six-run first, tallied seven in the second and four in the third.

T-town had 15 hits led by Ross Bloemer with a single, home run and three RBI and Isaac McWhorter with a single, double and two RBI. Gavin Addis, Jason Kreke, Gavin Buening and Landyn Thoele had two singles each. Buening had two RBI while Kreke and Thoele had one each.

T-town won game two, 10-0 in five innings.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's L. Powell and J. Gillespie combined to throw a no-hitter in a 16-4 victory over Ramsey Friday.

Powell got the win going three innings allowing two runs on nine walks while striking out seven. Gillespie pitched the final inning allowing two runs on four walks while striking out two.

BSE had seven hits led by Powell with a single, two triples and three RBI, D. Ledbetter with a singlel and double and H. Poe with a triple.
