EHS Seventh Inning Gives Hearts Baseball Win

Effingham High School broke a 7-7 tie with a run that scored on an error in the seventh and the Hearts edged Highland, 8-7 in baseball action Tuesday.

Highland took a 1-0 lead in the second and EHS tied in the top of the third. But the Bulldogs came back with a four-run bottom of the frame to lead 5-1.

The Hearts rallied with three runs in the top of the fourth and trailed Highland 6-4. Highland added on a run in the fifth to lead 7-4.

But here came Effingham tying the score at 7-7 as Kalen Reardon drove in two with a double. Gauge Massey singled in the frame.

Matthew Loy pitched the Hearts to victory, going two innings, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking one. Brayden Pals threw 2 1/2 innings in relief.

The Hearts finished with seven hits compared to 11 for Highland. Along with Reardon's double and three RBI, Joe Matteson had two singles and an RBI and Jackson Lee two singles. Massey finished with a single and drove in three runs. Quest Hull had an RBI.

The Hearts are a perfect 7-0 on the season.
