New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone took a leave of absence Wednesday to get a pacemaker for a low heart rate. The team said the procedure went as expected and Boone plans to return to the Yankees in a few days.

Bench coach Carlos Mendoza took over as acting manager for Wednesday night’s spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays, which the Yankees won 4-1.

The 47-year-old Boone, who is entering his fourth season as manager, underwent open-heart surgery in 2009.
