Pitcher Gerrit Cole produced big time as the New York Yankees won their opener of the American League Division series, 9-3 over Tampa Bay Monday.

Cole produced a six inning gem on the mound, throwing a six-hitter with three runs, two walks while striking out eight, one of those on a 100.1 mph heater that ended a bases-loaded rally for Tampa Bay in the fifth.

Of course Cole was aided by 15 hits by the Yankees including a grand slam in the ninth as the Yankees held on to a 4-3 lead that blossomed to 9-3 with the hit by Giancarlo Stanton.

Effingham's Chad Green came in to throw one inning allowing one walk while striking out one.

Three of the other runs were also produced by homers as Clint Frazier knocked out a solo shot in the third while Kyle Higashioka had a one-run shot in the fifth and Aaron Judge produced a solo, also in the fifth.
