Shoes, Indians Split DH; Area Baseball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- Altamont and Teutopolis split a high school baseball doubleheader Monday.

The Wooden Shoes edged Altamont, 5-4 in the opener. Altamont jumped on board in the first inning outscoring T-town 4-1. The Shoes then tied the score in the third and tallied the winning run in the fourth.

Both teams had six hits. Evan Wermert had a double and drove in a run for the Shoes while Matt Deters had two singles and an RBI.

Altamont was led by Bradin Baucum and Mason Robinson with a double each. Baucum drove in two runs. Kienon Eirhart had two singles.

Kayden Althoff picked up the pitching win to improve to 2-0. He went 6.1 innings allowing six hits, four runs, four walks and struck out six.

In the second contest, Altamont pulled out a 10-6 victory. The Shoes led 4-2 after the first inning but the Indians tied in the second. T-town moved ahead 6-5 in the third and Altamont tied in the fourth. The Indians then had a three-run fifth and tallied a final run in the sixth.

Robinson had two singles, a triple and an RBI for the Indians while Nathan Shepard had a single, double and three RBI. Jack Scott added two singles and Gage Wendling a double and an RBI.

T-town was led by Brayden Gaddis with two singles and two RBI.

This game had been started a week ago and only finished three innings at that time.

At Dieterich

Dieterich tallied a 10-3 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. WSS tallied one in the third but Dieterich came back with three in the bottom of the frame. The Hatchets pulled within 6-3 in the fifth but Dieterich kept the runs coming.

Seth Bushur had a single, triple and drove in three runs for the winners. Dalton Will added a single, triple and an RBI. Pete Britton contributed three singles and Noah Dill added two singles and an RBI.

WSS was led by Graham Kasey with two singles.

Bushur was the winner on the mound going four innings, allowing three hits, three runs, four walks and striking out five.

At Dieterich

 At St. Anthony

A double with one out in the seventh by Eli Moore gave Effingham St. Anthony a 14-13 victory over Atlamont in Saturday competition at Paul Smith Field.

The Bulldogs held a 3-2 opening inning lead and led 5-4 after two. St. Anthony then looked as if it put the game away with an eight run fourth, batting around and all of it done with two outs. Kennan Walsh led off the hitting with a single, Logan Antrim followed with a double and both runners came home on a double by Eli Moore. Brady Niebrugge had a single and drove in a run while Colton Fearday followed with an RBI single. An error on a ball by Will Hoene and Eli Levitt was hit by a pitch put two more runners on base. 

Kyle Stewart then drove in two runs with a single and Josh Blanchette also drove in two runs with a double.

But, here came the Indians. Altamont tied the score in the top of the fifth with nine runs. Bradin Baucum led off with a double and came home on a double by Tyler Robbins. With two outs, AJ Kopplin drew a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Jared Hammer reached on an error. Logan Cornett drew a walk. Braydon Stuemke singled home a run as did Kaden Eirhart.

Baucum followed with his second hit of the inning, a single. Robbins then had his second hit, a triple and cleared the bases. He came home on a single by Mason Robinson.

St. Anthony then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

At Teutopolis

Atlamont and Teutopolis met on Saturday and the Wooden Shoes took a 13-3 victory.

T-town trailed Altamont 3-0 until the third then produced two runs and moved ahead 6-3 in the fourth. The Shoes ended the game in the fifth with seven runs.

The Woden Shoes had eight hits led by L. Roepke with two singles, a double and five RBI, Cade Buehnerkemper with a single, double and two RBI and Brayden Gaddis with a double and an RBI.

Buehnerkemper picked up the pitching win going all five innings, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out six.

Altamont was led by Jared Hammer with a double and two RBI and Zeke Rippetoe with two singles.

At Teutopolis

At Neoga

In a Friday evening National Trail Conference contest, St. Anthony edged Neoga, 3-2.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead until the fifth then tallied another run. The Bulldogs tacked on the final run in the sixth.

Neoga had a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with two runs but couldn't overcome the 3-2 deficit.

St. Anthony had only two hits, singles by Colton Fearday and Josh Blanchette. Will Hoene added an RBI.

Neoga was led by Bryar Hennesay with a double, home run and two RBI. Brady Reynolds added a single.

Chase Dodson pitched a one-hitter as South Central edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 1-0 in National Trail Conference play Friday.

Dodson went the whole seven innings allowing no walks and striking out 19.

Dodson also provided the offense with the lone hit of the game for the Cougars with a single that drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pitchers Gavan Wernsing went 5.1 innings not allowing a hit but giving up seven walks while striking out 12. Graham Kasey finished out 1.1 innings allowing one run on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.

Dieterich tallied an 8-1 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

The Movin' Maroons cranked out 13 hits in the contest led by Pete Britton with a single and two doubles, Garrett Niebrugge with a single, double and an RBI, Noah Dill with two singles and three RBI and Sam Bushur with a double.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had three hits led by Seth Doty with two singles and an RBI.

Britton was the winning pitcher, going six innings, allowing three hits, one run, two walks and striking out six.

At Dieterich

North Clay (Louisville) nabbed a 7-0 National Trail Conference win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Friday.

The Cardinals held a 3-0 opening inning lead and had another three-run frame in the sixth.

Carson Burkett threw a two-hitter going five innings, allowing one walk and striking out five.

Donnie Zimmerman went two-for-four in the contest for the winners.

Wyatt Chandler and Francisco Veramontes had a hit each for BSE.
