Effingham Sacred Heart fell to Sigel St. Michael 12-5 in junior high baseball action Thursday.

The two squads were tied at 2-2 after the opening inning. The Sharpshooters then tallied four in the second and led 8-5 after five.

St. Michael had 10 hits led by Fearday with two singles, a double and two RBI, D. Hoene with three singles and Hatton with a double and two RBI.

The Shamrocks were led by Borries with a single, double and two RBI, Traub with a double and Sparks with two singles.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield downed Newton St. Thomas in jplay at the Casey-Westfield High School diamond.

The Braves took an early 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back. St. Thomas played a sound efensive game and hung with Casey-Westfield the rest of the contest.

"Drew Earnest pitched a great game on the mound, going the distance while only throwing 59 pitches," said Coach Mike Gier. 

Wade Ohs, Gavin Meinhart and Earnest were the Saints top hitters.

St. Thomas drops to 1-2 on the season and returns to action Friday taking on St. Anthony's B team at home.

 

At Altamont

South Central came calling and pounded home 22 runs to blank Altamont, 22-0 in junior high baseball competition Thursday.

South Central stepped out to a 10-0 opening inning lead and had a single run in the second and ended the game with 11 runs in the third.

The winners had 12 hits led by L. Burscott withi a single, double and three RBI, Jones with two singles and two RBI, Smith with two singles and three RBI and Markley with a double.

Altamont's Veteto had the lone hit with a double.
