St. Anthony Scores Four in the Sixth to Win Over Teutopolis, 12-11

In a wild and wooly return to high school sports on the radio, the St. Anthony Bulldogs scored four runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, 12-11, in high school baseball at Paul Smith Field at Community Park in Effingham.

The contest featured 20 hits and 10 walks.

The Wooden Shoes struck first, scoring two in the opening inning. Justin Hardiek singled to start the frame while Evan Addis followed with a double and Sam Bushur finished out with an RBI single.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second. With one out, Dylan Pruemer singled and Max Niebrugge reached on an error. Hardiek drew a walk to load the bases. Addis got on base on a fielder's choice as Pruemer was thrown out on the fielder's choice at home. Bushur followed with a two RBI single and an error put Derek Konkel on base. The Bulldogs got out of further damage with a strikeout.

St. Anthony came roaring back in the third to tie the score at 5-5. The bottom of the lineup came alive as Kyle Stewart singled and Josh Blanchette doubled. With one out, Logan Antrim doubled home both runners then took third on a passed ball. Brody Niebrugge singled him home. With two outs, Colton Fearday walloped a home run and the score was tied.

But not for long. The Shoes moved ahead with two in the fourth on two walks and a double by Bushur. They pushed that lead to 9-5 in the top of the fifth wih a walk, a hit batsman, a single by Niebrugge and an RBI walk to Addis.

The Bulldogs pulled within 9-8 in the bottom of the fifth. Antrim led off the frame with a double and came home on a single by Niebrugge. With one out, Fearday reached on an error and a second error put two runners on. Angelo Mendella singled home a run and the Bulldogs were within one.

Here came the Wooden Shoes once again pushing their lead to 11-8 in the sixth. Matt Deters drew a leadoff walk and Kayden Althoff singled. A sacrifice by Mitch Althoff moved the runners over. Another sacrifice, this one a fly ball to center by Pruemer, pushed across a run and the second one came home on a single by Niebrugge.

St. Anthony then tallied four more in the bottom of the sixth and held the Shoes scoreless in the seventh for the 12-11 win.

Kennan Walsh drew a walk as did Antrim. Niebrugge produced an RBI and Will Hoene followed with a single and an RBI. With two outs, Eli Levitt drew a walk and Mendella was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch brought one run home and a singe by Stewart brought home the winning run.

Levitt came back on the mound in the seventh. He walked leadoff batter Addis but got him on a fielder's choice. He then struck out the next batter and finished the game with a fly ball to centerfield. Levitt was the winning pitcher going two innings allowing two hits, one run, one walk and striking out one.
