CHICAGO -- Javier Baez hit a walk-off single to centerfield and the Chicago Cubs pulled out a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh in 11 innings Sunday at Wrigley Field.

The celebration for the game-winning hit was safely done at the mound where Baez stood and his teammates circled around jumping up and down with their hands skyward.

The Cubs completed a three-game sweep of PIttsbugh and improves to 7-2 on the season.

Jon Lester gave the Cubs six good innings, allowing four hits, one run, one walk and struck out four.  He left with the score knotted at 1-1. Casey Sadler went 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out one. Effingham's Dan Winkler went 1.1 innings allowing no hits, one walk and striking out two. Jeremy Jeffries picked up the victory coming in for an inning allowing no hits and no runs.

The Cubs had only four hits, doubles by Willson Contreras and Kyle Schwarber who drove in the first run and singles by Baez and Anthony Rizzo.
Reds Sweep Tigers

The Cincinnati Reds swept the Detroit Tigers Sunday in the first doubleheader with seven-inning games, a change made by MLB starting this past weekend for the coronavirus-shortened season.

MLB is expecting a lot of doubleheaders because of game postponements due to weather and the coronavirus.

The Reds won the first game 4-3 and the second 4-0. In the first game, Tigers pitcher Tyler Alexander, who entered the game in the third inning, struck out nine hitters in a row, setting a record for relievers. The overall MLB record for consecutive strikeouts is held by Tom Seaver, with 10.
