Scherzer Starts Despite Broken Nose, Cubs, Cards Win

Despite a broken nose from his batting practice mishap, the Washington Nationals’ Max Scherzer started Wednesday night’s game.

Apparently, the injury didn’t bother Scherzer as he tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out 10 in his team’s 2-0 victory and a doubleheader sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies.


Rays put Diaz on 10-Day IL

The Tampa Bay Rays have put infielder Yandy Diaz on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury. Diaz injured the hamstring Sunday in a game against the Los Angeles Angels.


Ortiz Wasn't Intended Target

Authorities in the Dominican Republic now say former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz wasn’t the intended target of this month’s shooting. Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez said that Sixto David Fernandez, a friend of Ortiz’s who shared a table with him that night, was the real target.
