Shoes, Eagles Win, Regional Baseball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School played host to Paris in regular season baseball action Monday and captured a 10-6 victory.

The Shoes edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and added on four in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Tigers mounted combacks in the fifth and sixth only to fall short.

Dawson Smith led the way in the hitting department with two doubles while Luke Ungrund had a double and two RBI and Tyler Runde a single and three RBI.

Evan Addis was the winner on the mound, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Brock Deters picked up the save, going 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and striking out three.

T-town is now 20-8 on the season and is hosting a Class 2A Regional where the Shoes will face Vandalia at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

At Brownstown

Newton came calling and picked up a 6-4 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo in action Monday.

BSE took a 4-0 lead but Newton tied with two in the third and two in the fifth. The Eagles then tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh for the win.

Zach Stark had two singles and drove in two runs for Newton while Chase Galloway had a single and two RBI. Newton will be competing in its own regional Thursday against Flora at 4:30 p.m.

BSE was led by Andy Goldsborough with a single, double and an RBI and Nate Philpot with two singles and an RBI. Jace McWhorter added a double. BSE is 14-11 on the season and will compete in the Class 1A Nokomis Regional Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against Nokomis.

At Kinmundy

Hillsboro tallied a 19-13 victory over host South Central in regular season play Monday.

The Cougars held a 4-1 lead until the fifth when Hillsboro knotted the score in the top of the frame. South Central regained the lead with one in the bottom of the inning but the Hiltoppers went on a tear with 15 runs in the seventh inning.

HIllsboro had 15 hits and was aided by eight South Central errors.

The Cougars were led by Hunter Brandt with a single, double, home run and five RBI while Sebastin Cowger had two singles and two RBI, Aaron Patten a double and three RBI and Logan Lotz with two singles.

South Central will be competing in the Class 1A Oblong Regional Wednesday and will face Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Eighth-seeded Neoga picked up a 4-1 victory over seventh-seeded Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in opening round play of the St. Anthony Regional Monday.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and tacked on two more in the fourth. The lone run for the Hatchets came in the bottom of the seventh.

Nate Lacy had two singles and two RBI for the winners. Isaac Walk added a double.

Trenton Moore was the winning pitcher going all seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out five.

In the second game, Casey-Westfield downed Martinsville, 9-2.

The regional continues Wednesday with Neoga against St. Anthony at 4 p.m. followed by Casey-Westfield taking on Altamont at 6.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Ramsey Co-op picked up a 13-3 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday in the Nokomis Regional.

The win for No. 9 Ramsey came in six innings via the 10-run rule. CHBC was seeded 10th.

Ramsey advances to face No. 2 Cumberland Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) edged Oblong, 9-8 in Oblong's own regional Monday.

Red Hill, seeded eighth, advances to meet No. 2 South Central at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran was an easy winner over Sandoval in opening round action in the North Clay Regional Monday.

CORL blanked Sandoval, 10-0. CORL now advances to face No. 1 Seed North Clay at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Class 2A Greenville Regional

Vandalia, seeded sixth, picked up a 2-0 win over No. 10 Litchfield in opening round play Monday.

Vandalia now gets the honor of taking on No. 2 Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Class 2A Newton Regional

Lawrenceville, seeded eighth, was a 7-1 winner over Marshall Monday.

The Indians downed the ninth-seed and will now face No. 1 Robinson at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
