T-town Hands St. Anthony 8-4 Baseball Loss

Teutopolis High School took the early lead and that was the game as the Wooden Shoes downed Effingham St. Anthony, 8-4.

The Shoes had 13 hits, four of those doubles by Dawson Smith, Luke Ungrund, Clint Weber and Mitch Hemmen.

T-town stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then added on three runs in the second, two in the third and finished out with one in the fourth.

The Bulldogs finally came to life with a run in the fourth then had a three-run fifth.

Smith led the Shoes with two singles, a double and an RBI while Ungrund, Weber and Hardiek had a single, double and an RBI each. Mitch Hemmen and Tyler Runde had two singles and an RBI each.

Hemmen picked up the pitching win going 4.1 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, three walks and striking out six. Smith came on in relief to go 2.2 innings allowing one hit, one walk and striking out five. The Shoes are now 12-5 on the season and will next take on Mount Zion Thursday.

St. Anthony was led by Blake Niebrugge with a single and a fifth inning home run. He finished with three RBI. Kaden Fearday had the other extra base hit, a double. The Bulldogs dropped to 13-3 and will travel to Charleston today.
