St. A, BSE, C'land Claim Baseball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony didn't score until the final two innings, but that was enough in a 4-0 win over South Central in high school baseball action Wednesday.

The two teams went scoreless through the first five innings. St. Anthony broke loose with two in the sixth. The Bulldogs had five hits in the contest led by Blake Niebrugge with a home run and two RBI. Hunter Stephens added two singles. Dylan Guy had an RBI.

South Central had three hits led by DJ Roberts with a double.

Collin Koester picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts. The Bulldogs are now 10-1 on the season.

Chase Dodson picked up the tough-luck pitching loss going six innings, allowing five runs on four hits, four walks and six strikeouts.

At Pana

Brownstown/St. Elmo moved its record to 6-3 on the season with an 8-6 win over Pana in action Wednesday.

Pana held a 3-2 lead after two innings but BSE tied in the top of the third then moved ahead 8-3 in the top of the fourth. The Panthers came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame but that was the end of the scoring for both squads the rest of the way.

BSE had six hits led by Andy Goldsborough with two doubles and an RBI, Nate Philpot with a double and two RBI, Bryton Pruett with a single and an RBI and Brady Maxey with a single and an RBI.

BSE will play in the Vandalia Round Robin Saturday taking on Vandalia at 10 a.m. and Okawville at noon.

At Oblong

Cumberland picked up an easy 14-4 victory over Oblong in five innings Wednesday.

The Pirates ran off to a 10-1 opening inning lead and the game was over. Cumberland had 12 hits in the contest led by Brennyn Cutts with two singles, a double and three RBI. Brayson Shew added two singles and two RBI and Justin Brown two singles.

Alex Talley picked up the win on the mound allowing five hits, four runs, three walks and eight strikeouts.
