St. Anthony Claims NTC Tourney Crown

Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of the NTC Tournament.

Effingham St. Anthony High School blanked North Clay (Louisville), 4-0 to win the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament championship Friday.

The Bulldogs scored all four runs in the third inning. St. Anthony had eight hits in the contest led by Kaden Fearday with a double and two RBI and Blake Niebrugge with a single, double and an RBI. Colin Koester had the other RBI.

Koester fashioned a gem on the mound, going 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out 11. The Bulldogs ended the fall season with an 18-3 record.

North Clay's L. Fleener had a single and double while H. Clifton added a double.

In the third place contest, Altamont tallied an 11-6 win over Dieterich.

The Movin' Maroons took a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second and two to lead 5-0 in the top of the third. Altamont came back with four runs in the bottom of the third. Dieterich then held a 6-4 lead in the fourth. But the Indians rallied with a seven-run fifth for the win.

Altamont had nine hits led by Jacob Hammer with a single, double and three RBI. Alek Biggs had two singles and drove in three runs, Noah Teasley and Kaden Eirhardt had two singles and an RBI each.

Dieterich was led by Niebrugge with two singles and two RBI and Hartke with two singles and an RBI.

In the consolation championship, South Central edged St. Elmo/Brownstown, 3-2 Friday.

The two squads were tied at 1-1 after two innings. South Central then moved ahead 2-1 in the third but SEB tied in the top of the fourth. The game went into the sixth and the Cougars scored the winning run.

South Central had four hits led by A. Patten with two singles and an RBI. C. Dodson had a single and an RBI and A. Lybarger an RBI. The Cougars finished the season with a 12-7 record.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Nate Philpot and Caleb Atwood with a double each. Atwood drove in a run. Francisco Viramontes also had an RBI. The Eagles end the season with a 9-9-1 record.
