St. A, Dieterich, N. Clay, Altamont Advance in NTC Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony, Dieterich, North Clay (Louisville) and Altamont advanced in winner bracket play of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Monday.

The games are being played at the higher seeds until the finals.

Neoga, seeded eighth, stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on the top-seeded Bulldogs. But St. Anthony regained its composure and came right back with five runs in the second. The Bulldogs then tallied single runs in the fourth and sixth and two in the fifth.

St. Anthony had nine hits led by Colin Koester with a single, double, home run and four RBI. Kaden Fearday had a single and double while Jack Hoene added a dobule and Hunter Stephens a double and an RBI.

Neoga was led by Lacy with two singles.

In game three, Dieterich blanked South Central, 2-0. The Movin' Maroons tallied a run in the second and a run in the sixth.

Dieterich had four hits led by C. Niebrugge with a double. E. Bohnhoff had a single and drove in a run while D. Kuhl had an RBI.

South Central had five hits, all singles by five different players.

St. Anthony will now play host to Dieterich Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game will be played at Paul Smith Field.

North Clay (Louisville) ended this game in the sixth inning with an 11-1 score over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

The Cardinals quickly stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead then added on a run in the second, two in the fourth and five in the sixth.

North Clay had 10 hits and was aided by four WSS errors. Jones led the way for the Cardinals with two singles and a double.

Repking picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing one hit, five walks and striking out four.

In game five, Altamont had a three-run third and tallied a 4-1 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

The Indians took a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied three more in the third. St. Elmo/Brownstown scored its lone run in the seventh.

Altamont was led by N. Teasley with a single and double and J. Robbins with two singles and an RBI. Robbins also was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out nine.

McWhorter had a single and an RBI for SEB.

North Clay will play host to Altamont at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
