Wainwright, Cardinals Blank Dodgers, Cubs Lose to Reds

ST. LOUIS -- Adam Wainwright spent four months on disabled list then came back to pitch just like he had before in a 5-0 at the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-0 Sunday.

The Cardinals lost four straight at home and gave up their lead in the National League Wild Card race, but Wainwright got them back on track tied with the Dodgers for the second wild card spot.

Wainwright went six innings, mixing his pitches up and striking out nine.

Marcell Ozuna homered in the second inning and the Cardinals took their lead to 3-0 with back-to-back RBI singles by Jedd Gyorko and Yadier Molina in the fourth inning.

 

Reds 2, Cubs 1

CHICAGO -- Scoring runs is a concern for the Chicago Cubs. Their pitchers have held up their end, the but Cubs struggle with runs, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Cincinnati Reds Sunday.

The Reds went up 2-0 on a Scot Schebler home run in the first and a Phillip Ervin shot in the fourth.

Willson Contreras nailed a double to give the Cubs two runners in scoring position with one out in the fifth. Addison Russell was at third when Albert Almora Jr. drove him home with a sacrifice fly.

The Cubs' Kris Bryant singled to right field and Almora then singled to center, the but Reds got out of the threat.
