The Chicago Cubs agreed to terms with free-agent infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist and traded second baseman Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees to make room for Zobrist at second base, the teams announced Tuesday.

Zobrist's deal is for four years and $56 million. It includes a full no-trade clause for the first three years.

Zobrist will receive a $2 million signing bonus up front, then will be paid $10 million in salary during the 2016 season. He will make $16 million, $16 million and $12 million the final three years of the deal.

The Cubs received pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named later in return for Castro, who spent six seasons with the Cubs and made the All-Star team three times. Second baseman Brendan Ryan is the player to be named, according to ESPN sources and multiple reports.

"We could not have made this signing without this trade and would not have made this trade without this signing," Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said. "This was an opportunity to essentially trade Starlin for Ben Zobrist and Adam Warren. That made a lot of sense for us."

The move reunites Zobrist, 34, with his former manager in Tampa Bay, Joe Maddon.

"He's all about winning. That's what he's about," Maddon said earlier Tuesday.

Zobrist was a key part of the Kansas City Royals' 2015 championship team. He batted .303 with two home runs, six RBIs, 15 runs scored and one stolen base as the team's No. 2 hitter throughout the postseason. He went 3-for-6 with two doubles in Game 1 of the World Series to set the tone early for Kansas City. He contributed two doubles and scored two runs in Game 5 to help the Royals defeat the New York Mets and clinch their first title since 1985.

The New York Yankees have acquired Starlin Castro from the Chicago Cubs to be their new second baseman. The Yankees will send pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named later to the Cubs.

Second baseman Brendan Ryan is the player to be named, according to ESPN sources and multiple reports.

Castro, a three-time All-Star, fits the Yankees' goal of becoming younger and more athletic. The 25-year-old hits right-handed, which is another Yankees need, as the team struggled against left-handed pitching last season. The Yankees also like that Castro can back up shortstop and third base when he isn't starting at second.

"It kind of checks off a lot of the boxes," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.

Cashman tried to deal for Castro at the trade deadline, even before the Cubs moved him from shortstop to second base. Yankees scouts thought Castro could make the transition to second, which was confirmed when Chicago pushed him to that position to make room for Addison Russell at short.

Cardinals Get Gyorko From Padres

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired infielder Jedd Gyorko and cash from the San Diego Padres for outfielder Jon Jay.

The 27-year-old Gyorko hit .247 with 16 homers and 57 RBIs this year, spending time at second base, shortstop and first base. He has a .236 average in three big league seasons with 49 homers and 171 RBIs.

Under a deal Gyorko signed in April 2015, he is guaranteed $4 mililon next season, $6 million in 2017, $9 million in 2018 and $13 million in 2019. The contract includes a $13 million club option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout.

Jay, 30, helped the Cardinals win the 2011 World Series title but hit .210 last season, his lowest average in six big league seasons and down from .303 in 2014. He has a .287 career average.

Jay has a $6,225,000 salary next season, then can become a free agent.

Diamondbacks Acquire Shelby Miller

The Arizona Diamondbacks have added another All-Star to their starting rotation by acquiring Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

Arizona will send a three-player package highlighted by shortstop prospect Dansby Swanson, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, to Atlanta in exchange for Miller, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark. The Braves also will receive outfielder Ender Inciarte and pitching prospect Aaron Blair, while the Diamondbacks will also receive a minor-league player, according to Stark.

The Braves had previously insisted that Arizona include A.J. Pollock in any potential deal for Miller, but the star outfielder is not included in Tuesday's trade, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney.
