Bulldogs Edge Centennial, Hearts Drop DH To Mattoon, Area Baseball Roundup

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony edged Champaign Centennial 4-3 in baseball action Friday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 3-2 opening inning lead. Centennial tied in the third. St. Anthony's winning run came in the fifth. Jacob Lorenz singled to start the fifth. With two outs, James Kabbes tripled home the winning run.

Kabbes had a double, triple and an RBI. Branson Puckett had a double and drove in two runs.

At Champaign

At Effingham

Mattoon picked up two victories over the Hearts in Saturday competition.

The Flaming Hearts won the hit battle 8-6 in the opener but couldn't push enough runs across to get the win, losing 5-3 in seven innings.

Carter Hayes got a hit in each of his three at bats with two singles and a double. Mattoon jumped out to the early lead in the first. Effingham came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame. But Mattoon tallied four in the fifth.

In the second contest, Braydon Bone allowed just two runs but Effingham couldn't get the offense going in a 2-1 loss to the Green Wave.

Bone racked up eight strikeouts and allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks over seven innings.

Sawyer Scott recorded the win for Mattoon, allowing one run, one walk, seven hits and one strikeout.

Hayes and Koenig had a single and a double each for the Hearts.

"We hit the ball well but just right at them," said EHS Coach Chris Fleener. "We had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with a chance to win but Mattoon's defense prevailed."

At St. Elmo

Brownstown/St. Elmo captured two victories in its own round robin tournament Saturday.

BSE edged Wayne City 8-7 in the opener behind 10 hits. Lewis Brown had three doubles and drove in three runs. Drake Hall had three singles and three RBI.

In the second game, BSE bounced Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 13-4. Hall had a single, double and four RBI while Noah Flowers had a single, double and an RBI.

BCCH was led by Rexroad with two doubles and Doty with three singles.

BCCH then defeated Wayne City 7-5. The Eagles led 5-4 after three innings and 6-5 until the seventh when they tallied a final run.

Jackson Bales had three singles and an RBI while Austin Rexroad had a single, triple and an RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Cerro Gordo 1-0 until the sixth then knotted the score. The Hatchets tallied three in the top of the seventh to pull out a 4-1 victory in eight innings in game three of a round robin Saturday.

Derek Moshenrose had a single, double and two RBI while Tristan Warner had two singles and an RBI. Dylan Ohnesorge and Devon Deremiah chipped in with two singles each.

Nic Hutchinson picked up the pitching win, going all eight innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out nine.

At Strasburg

Teutopolis picked up two freshman/sophomore victories over Champaign Centennial in Saturday play.

T-town won the opener 6-5. Brock Bueker was the winning pitcher. The second game went to the Wooden Shoes 5-3. Collin Funneman picked up the pitching win.

 

At Dieterich

Dieterich handed Martinsville a 9-0 defeat in non-conference play Friday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then put the game away with a six-run third.

Hartke had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Schmidt added a double. Lidy had two singles and an RBI and Thoele a single and two RBI.
