Freddie Gabbard, 70, of Beecher City, died at 12:43 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Effingham, Illinois.

His body will be cremated according to family wishes and a private family service wil be held at a later date. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at

He was born April 26, 1942 in Golden, Colorado to Sherman and Ruth Gabbard. He married Dorothy (McCollom) Griffith January 23, 2003. He was retired from construction having been a heavy machinery operator. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Beecher City; sons, Steve Clay (wife Carla) Gabbard of Point, Tex., Dave Troy (wife Cleotilde) Gabbard of Flint, Tex., Clinton Wade (wife Kelley) Gabbard of Flint, Tex.; stepsons, Ray King of Beecher City, Richard Hills of Toledo, Robert (wife Tammy) Hills of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Cherie (husband Scott) Jones of Winona, Tex., Teresa (husband Ricky) Williams of Berryville, Tex. Cindy Gabbard of Dallas, Tex.; stepdaughter, Connie (husband Carl) Stortzum of Beecher City; brothers, Wick (wife Betty) Gabbard of Athens, Tex., Max (wife Lila) Gabbard of Kentucky; sisters, Wanda (husband Roger) Wilson of Flint, Tex., Mary Brown of Benwheeler, Tex.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Floyd Gabbard and sister, Bernice Gongrey.
