Charles R. "Charlie" Dueker (78) of Effingham

Charles R. "Charlie" Dueker, 78, of Effingham died at 7:25 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 in his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22 at First Christian Church in Effingham with Pastor David McConnell officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 21 from 4-7 p.m. at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham and one hour before the funeral at the church Saturday. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bible Grove or to the First Christian Church, Effingham. Condolences may be left by clicking here.
Charles was born August 22, 1935 in Bible Grove Township, Clay County, the son of Arnold and Elda (Veith) Dueker. He married Shirley Schwermin December 1, 1962 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis. She preceded him in death June 30, 1973. He then married Phyllis Fae (Schmohe) Thomas September 26, 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont. Charles was a 30-year employee of Illinois Consolidated Telephone Co., retiring in 1990. He also was a lifelong farmer, retiring February 17, 2014. He was a U.S. Army veteran and also served in the Illinois National Guard. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Effingham.
Charles is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Effingham; son, Donnie (wife Jennifer) Dueker of Effingham; step-daughter, Peggy (husband Mike) Stalling of West Mansifeld, Ohio; step-son Lyle (wife Kim) Thomas of Rolla, Missouri; grandchildren, Diana Dueker of Chicago, Danieil Thomas of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jarrett Thomas of Rolla, Missouri; nieces, Rhonda Dueker of Effingham, Misty (Dueker) Campos of Effingham; nephews, Kerry, Kurt and Kory Wolff and brother-in-law, Allen Wolff, also of Altamont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; brother, Leonard Dueker, and sister-in-law, Lois Wolff.
