Myron D. Pontious (86) of St. Peter

Myron Dean Pontious, 86, of St. Peter, passed away at 2:17 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Pagel Funeral Home, St. Peter, with burial in the Old Loogootee Cemetery, rural St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 in the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. till service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Church, Effingham or Fayette County 4-H. Arrangements are being handled by Pagel Funeral Home, St. Peter.
Myron was born on May 18, 1927 in St. Peter, Fayette County, the son of Homer V. and Iza R. (Smithson) Pontious. He was a retired farmer. He served in the Army during WWII as a Sargent. He married Della E. Brooks on July 27, 1952 in Bible Grove, IL. He was a member of Macedonia Christian Church, lifetime member of Pontious Family Association and was a Commander for the St. Peter American Legion Post # 380 several times.
Myron is survived by his wife Della of rural St. Peter; son: Brent (wife Deborah) Pontious of rural St. Peter; daughters: Mitzi Schwertfeger of Plymonth, WI. and Michele (husband Keith) Perkins of Effingham; sister-in-law: Ruth Pontious of Salem; six grandchildren : Alex ( wife Stacey) Pontious of Columbia, IL, Adam ( wife Julie) Pontious of Lebanon, MO., Ali Pontious of St. Peter, IL., Josh Perkins of Effingham, IL., Kimberly Perkins of Effingham, IL., Lee Schwab of Des Moines, IA.; 2 great grandchildren: Aiden Pontious and Owen Pontious.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Aubrey Pontious; sister: Enid Gurtner and son-in-law Carl Schwertfeger.
