Josephine C. Losh, 88, of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Josephine's remains were cremated, as per her wishes. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial mass celebrating Josephine's life will be held at a later date.

Josephine was born March 23, 1924 in Lansford, Pa., the daughter of Stephen and Julia (Pinkova) Kovach. She married Franklin P. Losh August 7, 1951 in Suffolk County, England. He preceded her in death July 23, 1995. As a First Lieutenant and a Registered Nurse in the U.S. Air Force, Josephine traveled the world. While stationed in England, she met and fell in love with SSGT. Franklin Losh. Josephine gave up her career, both in the military and as an RN, to stay home and dedicate her life to raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as "Baba". Josephine never knew a stranger, and was well-liked by all who met her. She had a zest for life and loved to try new things. She was a selfless person who always put others before herself, but she was never without a smile on her face.

Survivors include her children, Julie (husband Bob) Dane of Casey; Cecelia (husband Mike) Johnston of Shelbyville; Alicia (husband Dennis) Ricketts of Effingham; Frank (wife Arlene) Losh of El Nido, Calif.; Frances (husband Russell) Miller of Effingham; Maria (husband Thomas) Losh of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Andrea (husband James) Glover of Effingham; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with three on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Adam Franklin and brother, Stephen Kovach.

The family wishes to thank Josephine's good friend Frances Bannister, and the staff at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham for their support and care of Josephine the last few years.
