Gary A. Brummerstedt, born on February 10, 1937, in Stewardson, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Gary was the son of Gilbert and Geraldine (Falk) Brummerstedt. In his early years, he married Shirley Angel, and together they welcomed four children into the world. Later in life, he found love again and married Tonya Petersen on April 19, 1975, in Peoria. Although Tonya preceded him in death on October 20, 2023, their love story remained a cherished chapter in his life.

He is lovingly remembered by his four children, Greg, Judy, Stacia, and Angela Brummerstedt, all of Effingham; his grandchildren, Michael and Kennedy Brummerstedt; two nephews, Tracy Vonderheide of Shumway and Spencer Vonderheide of Fresno, California, and one niece, Geannine Kessler of Shumway.

His parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Shary and Leon Vonderheide, preceded him in death.

Gary retired from Caterpillar in 1991 after a successful 35-year career as a labor relations manager. An avid outdoorsman, Gary found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. He was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman, and clay shooter. His love for vintage cars also spoke of his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Gary was an active member of several associations that reflected his interests, including the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and the B.A.S.S. Fishing Association.

Graveside services to honor and celebrate the life of Gary A. Brummerstedt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in Stewardson Cemetery.
