Thomas Keith “Tom” Hannaman age 83, of Newton passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Tom’s life will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton with Chris Parr officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time the of service Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton. Military rites will be conducted by Jasper Post No. 20, of the American Legion.

Tom was born on January 16, 1941, in Wheeler, Illinois the son of Henry Edward Martin and Bethel (Hoopengarner) Hannaman. Tom married Jane Ann Parr in April of 1973. They shared thirty-nine years together before Jane’s passing on March 11, 2013.The summer before his senior year in high school, Tom started work on the pipeline. Following graduation, he returned to pipeline, spending the next five years traveling all over the world including Peru, Argentina and Patagonia. Tom entered into the service of his country in 1963. He proudly served in the United States Army. Following his military service, Tom spent twenty-five years at C.I.P.S. in Newton as a heavy equipment and machinery operator until his retirement in 2003. Tom was a member of Jasper Post No. 20, the I.B.E.W. Local 841, and was presently attending the First Baptist Church in Newton. In his free time, Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors. He liked to hunt, fish and shoot trap. He loved golf and enjoyed the time spent with golfing buddies at the links. Tom was an accomplished woodworker, having built many furniture pieces for his family. He was also a licensed auctioneer and would call area auctions on the weekends. While he enjoyed his many hobbies, Tom loved spending time with family and his many friends. He was a true storyteller and loved to entertain people with his stories and jokes.

Tom will be loved and remembered by his children Brad Ackerman of Estero, Florida, Brett Ackerman, wife Laural of Newton and Julie Chapman, husband Randy of Newton; grandchildren Kayla Brodie, husband Marcus, Brittany Ackerman, Reid Ackerman, wife Lauren, Kyle Klier, wife Courtney, Mark Klier, Jackson Chapman and Lucy Chapman; five great grandchildren; brother, Gary Hannaman of Newton; sister, Susan Hannaman of Newton; nieces and nephew, Jo Beth Geier, husband John, Ed Hannaman, wife Kim, Jennifer Campbell, husband Chip and Kristin Duke, husband Jeff; and many great nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jane Ann, brother and sister-in-law Carl and Janie Hannaman, sister-in-law Betty Hannaman, niece Carla Worcester and nephew Nate Painter.
