Janice was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Montrose for more than 65 years and practiced her Catholic faith daily. She was recognized by her parish as “A Woman of Distinction” in 2019 and received the honor from Bishop Paprocki of Diocese of Springfield. She was a fiery but gentle woman when it came to her family. She protected them and often gave advice; the way only she could. She was an avid quilter and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren benefited from her talent. She served her community well over the years being an election judge, a Dieterich Community Unit #30 School Board member; volunteered her time at the Altamont Lutheran Interparish School and the Effingham Performance Center. In her earlier years she was employed by Effingham County Soil and Water Conservation Service and received many awards for her service. She was a graduate of Newton Community High School Class of 1955. She loved to play golf in her younger years and watched many football games with her son Pat when the Minnesota Vikings played. She loved to travel especially to see her daughter Angie in Maryland; in fact she was planning a trip to visit her at Easter. She also loved going to Texas and went along several times when Glenda and Jesse went to visit their daughter Jessica when her husband Trey was stationed at Fort Hood. While there she also visited many friends that she made a St. Francis Village in Texas. She was a wonderful cook and made sure her daughters and even sons knew how to cook because she stated “She couldn’t even boil water” when she was first married. Denis and Janice loved camping and they even started their own little “campground” in Jasper County where they spent time together before his passing and she then continued camping with family members.
