Leon Rowland Mentzer 73 of Jacksonville, Illinois formerly Decatur, Illinois passed away at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday March 5, 2024 in The Grove Health and Rehab in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Leon was born March 1, 1951 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania the son of Robert Arthur and Dorothy (Hollaway) Mentzer. He worked as a Owner/Operator of Munchies Restaurant in Charleston, Illinois, worked at World Color Press in Effingham, Illinois was a former licensed Real Estate Broker and was a Christian Author. Leon was a Alumnus Initiate of The Delta Chi Fraternity at Illinois State University. Mr. Mentzer married Mary Ann McAllister June 26, 1981 and Mrs. Mentzer passed away September 27, 2012. Leon enjoyed traveling, especially ocean cruises including book cruises, spending time with his grandchildren and doing stain glass work.
He is survived by his son, Josh Mentzer (girlfriend, Jesse Fay) of Decatur, Illinois; siblings, Lynne Robinson (Les) of Gap, Pennsylvania and Barbara Tull (Jim) of Effingham, Illinois; grandchildren, Bentley of Forsyth, Illinois and Ashlynn of Decatur, Illinois; nieces, Lori Nelson (Paul) of Effingham, Illinois and Julie Roedl (Chris) of Watson, Illinois; great niece, Ashley Roedl of Watson, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann Mentzer; son, Justin Mentzer; and granddaughter Aubrey. Memorials are suggested to the Family C/O Josh Mentzer 440 E. Grove Decatur, IL 62521
