H. Lee “Pappy” Kinden, 84, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with graveside services and military rites immediately following at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham, IL. Pappy was born on April 19, 1939, in Chicago, IL, the son of Helmer (Ham) and Thelma (Walker) Kinden. He married Leota Wilson on October 18, 1973 in Effingham, IL. Pappy served in the United States Air Force. After his discharge, he returned to Illinois where he enjoyed his passion for cars, racing, motorcycles, and target shooting. Pappy operated a number of small businesses over the years and spent several years working at World Color Press and serving as a security guard for Fedders. Pappy served as President and Founder of the Mindbenders Motorcycle Club, as well as supported multiple other clubs throughout the area.

Pappy is survived by his wife, Leota Kinden of Effingham; daughters, Jeanie Winterfeld (George) of Florida and Yvonne Sheteron (Omer) of Michigan; 2 grandchildren, Jerod (Stephanie) of Virginia and Richelle of Michigan; 3 great-grand-daughters, Danika, Hannah and Keely; siblings, Jean Fisher (Will deceased) of North Dakota, John Kinden (Linda) of Montana, Kathryn Harris (Wayne) of Washington, Leslie Kinden (Rosie) of North Dakota, and Phyllis Thornton (husband deceased) of Tennessee; and Inlaws, David Wilson (Sandy), Carla (wife of Dennis, deceased), Jenna Huntington (Paul, deceased), and Keith Wilson (Judy).

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Susan Anderson (Jeff) and Joyce Garza; grandson, Brandon Smith; brothers-in-law, Dennis and Paul; and Leota’s parents, Von and Barbara Wilson.
