Barry Horste (77) of Altamont

Barry Horste, 77, of Altamont, died at 7:49 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. A private funeral service will be held on Thursday with burial to follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials may be made to The Whoo Hoo Sisterhood or the Effingham County Humane Society.
Barry A. Horste was born on Friday, January 17, 1947 in Olney, IL to Ralph and Mae (Knight) Horste. He married Diedre ‘Dee’ Pruden on February 9, 1969 in Grayville, IL. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont and Masonic Lodge #533. Barry was the owner and operator of Horste Drywall for many years.
He is survived by: his wife of over 55 years, Dee Horste of Altamont; son, Chris Horste of Altamont; daughter, Julie Hummel of Lake St. Louis, MO; 3 grandchildren, Elaine, Audrey and Jack.
Barry was preceded in death by: his parents and brothers, Philip and Tom Horste.
