William E. “Bill” Myers, 72 of Effingham, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Rose Cemetery, Montrose. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the church, with a 3:30 pm Knights of Columbus rosary, a 5:30pm Rotary walk-through and a 6:45 pm prayer service. Bill’s family requests that in lieu of plants and flowers, memorial donations may be given to an education fund for his granddaughter, Evelyn. 

Bill was born September 19, 1951 in Effingham, the son of William Sr. and Lois E. (Gloyd) Myers. He married Rosemary C. “Rosie” Ordner on June 12, 1971 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2023. Bill and Rosie enjoyed traveling around the world and together were involved in organizations such as Worldwide Marriage Encounter and Cursillo and they even started the PreSchool Religion Program at St. Francis Parish. 

For many years, Bill worked as an insurance broker at his agency, Althoff Insurance Unlimited in Effingham. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, bowling, playing poker with his friends, making wine with his son, and riding his motorcycle. Bill proudly served in various roles in the Effingham Rotary Club for over 40 years and was currently serving as the Past President.  Bill was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and the Chicago Bears. He was a longtime member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874, the Effingham Moose #502, and the Effingham Elks Lodge #1016.

Above all else, his family meant everything to him. Bill is survived by his son, William "Bill" (Stacey) Myers of Newman; daughter, Connie (Benjamin) Houlihan of Valley Park, MO; granddaughter, Evelyn “Axel” Myers; brothers, Bruce (Patti) Myers of Effingham and Robert (Tim) Myers of Rockford; sister, Brenda (Ken) Wyse of Loves Park; sister-in-law, Donna Ray of Beecher City. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; brother, John W. Myers; sisters, Rebecca Lynn McCoy and Beverly (husband, Terry) Yingst; grandchildren, Hope Marie Jenkins and Nicholas Timothy Jenkins.
