Dana Ray Dunn, 72, of Marshall, IL and formerly of Hazel Dell, passed away at 3:00 pm Thursday, December 21, 2023, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday evening at the funeral chapel. The burial will be in the Aten cemetery rural Hidalgo, IL.

Dana was born on February 26, 1951, in Mattoon to Laverle Junior & Dorothy (Hawker) Dunn. He graduated from Lake Land College with a bachelor, Legal Secretary and went on to work a variety of jobs, including on the assembly line of a shoe factory in his youth, UTA and then as a legal secretary at several major local law firms, most recently at Smith Law (now Smith, Pappas, & Jones, Ltd.), from which he reluctantly retired in 2022. He loved travel and had visited countries in Central America and the Caribbean through major cruise lines, such as Holland America and Celebrity Cruises. A walking encyclopedia of daytime drama trivia, he also enjoyed a decades – long career onstage at the CAT (Charleston Ally Theater) and other venues, including major roles in The Lion King, Rom & Julie, and several plays by Anton Chekhov and Christopher Durang. More than this, however, was that everyone who knew him loved him, and will miss him terribly.

In addition to many friends and extended family, Dana is survived by his sister Sheila (Steven Matthew “Matt”) King, his niece Summer (Chad) Marks and his husband of more than 20 years, Todd Berry.
