We come together today to celebrate the life of Darwin "Stormy" Donald Storm, 93, a cherished member of the Stewardson community, devoted family man, and patriot, who went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2023, surrounded by the love of family.

Born on November 1, 1930, to parents Elza and Faye (Lugar) Storm, Darwin's life was one marked by dedication, love, and service. After graduating from Stewardson High School in 1948, he bravely served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. His commitment to his country was a profound chapter in his life that shaped the man he would become. Following his military service, Darwin returned to Stewardson, where he would spend nearly five decades working at Stewardson Builders Supply, becoming a cornerstone in the local business community. On May 3, 1958, Darwin married the love of his life, Peggy Ann Hampton, and together they shared 65 years of marriage, filled with joy, challenges, and unwavering partnership. Their union was blessed with two sons, Cary (Barb) Storm of Stewardson and John (Robin) Storm of Effingham, and later flourished with five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and pride to Darwin's life. A man of faith, Darwin was a long-standing member of Calvary Baptist Church in Effingham, where he found spiritual solace and community. He lived his beliefs through action, offering kindness and support to those around him.

Darwin's legacy is carried on by his wife Peggy; his sons and their spouses; his grandsons, Josh (Danielle), Zack (Amy), Mikel (Brooke), Brandon (Lauren), and Blake (Kristi); his great-grandchildren, Mason, Grace, Dalton, Louis, Graham, Sutton, Jaxson, and Everett; and his brother, Dwight "Shorty" (Bev) Storm of Stewardson. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Dixie Storm of St. Louis, Missouri, along with a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers, Jesse Storm and Dwain Storm, and his daughter, Gina Ann Storm, who passed away in 1981.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the HSHS Hospice team for their exceptional care and compassion during Darwin's final days.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, with Pastors Mark Wilson and Richard Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. on Thursday until the time of service. All services will be held in the Stewardson Community Building. Darwin will be laid to rest at Stewardson Cemetery, where he will be honored for his service with military honors performed by the Stewardson American Legion Post 611.
