Leroy William Westendorf, age 92, of Dieterich, Illinois and formerly of Pesotum, Illinois, passed away at 9:30 AM – Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Monday, December 4, 2023, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois, with Fr. Frank Folino, OFM, celebrating mass.  A private family burial will be in the St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pesotum, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM – Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. Leroy was born on September 26, 1931, in Dieterich, Illinois, the son of Aloysious Henry and Rosa Elizabeth (Hartman) Westendorf. He married Bertha May Green on November 28, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dieterich, Illinois.

Leroy was an instrument maker at mechanical engineering department at the University of Illinois in Urbana. He served his country in the United States Air Forces during the Korean War. He was a member of the St Isidore Parish and the American Legion.

Leory enjoyed hunting and was an avid card player.  He liked to mow and keep his yard looking immaculate and to tinker and work on things.

Leroy is survived by:

Wife of 70 years – Bertha May Westendorf of Dieterich, Illinois

Children – Gail (wife Linda) Westendorf of Decatur, Illinois; Mary Wilson of Highland, Illinois; and Janet (husband Maurice) Kocher of St Jacob, Illinois.

Grandchildren -Brian (wife Kristi) Westendorf, Sean (husband Brian) James, Teri Kallal, Michael (wife Lauren) Volk, Justin (wife Kelley) Kocher, Kate (husband Gary) Spencer, Joyce (husband Joe) Thole, and Karen (husband Brandon) Hopp.

Great Grandchildren – Luke and Evan Westendorf, Nathan and Brayden James, Alyssa, Guinevere, Amber, Benjamin, Vivienne, and Scarlett Volk, Hannah, Gavin and Noah Kocher, Ryan Spencer, Charlotte and Evelyn Thole, and Ethan Hopp.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Richard Wilson, siblings Rita Ulhorn, Mildred Westendorf, Francis Westendorf, John Westendorf, and Raymond Westendorf.
