Michael Dean "Mike" Gordon (61) of Cowden

Michael Dean Gordon, affectionately known as “Hoss," passed away on November 6, 2023, in Taylorville, Illinois.

Born on December 14, 1961, in Germany, Mike was a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, whose life was marked by dedication, love, and a unique sense of humor. He was the son of Dale and Ethel (Hooper) Gordon. Mike was a 1980 graduate of Cowden-Herrick High School. He devoted 26 years of his life to International Paper, where he was known for his dedication, reliability, and his ability to bring a sense of camaraderie to the workplace. Mike was also an active member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, demonstrating his faith through service and community engagement. His commitment extended to the wider community as a supporter of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, where he contributed his time and energy to local farming initiatives. Mike was a man of many interests and hobbies, which brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. He had a special fondness for playing cards and watching western movies and tv shows. Mike also enjoyed fishing with his sons and friends and mowing his yard. Most importantly, Mike cherished the time he spent with friends and family, creating memories that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

He is survived by his mother, Ethel, of Cowden; his three sons, Blake Gordon of Republic, Missouri, Matthew Gordon of Pana, and Jared (Carrie Ann Dilley) Gordon of Pana; his three cherished grandchildren, Alexis, Maverick, and Addilynn; and his siblings, Tom Gordon of Cowden, Sandy (Melvin) Pope of Beecher City, and Steve (Sara) Gordon of Effingham.

Mike was predeceased by his father, Dale, and his grandparents, Everett and Louesther Gordon, and Paul and Myra Hooper.

Visitation for Mike will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the same location, with Pastor Steve Neville officiating.
