John M. Sanders, a beloved husband, father, and community member, passed away peacefully at his home in Windsor, on October 21, 2023.

John was born on October 25, 1965, in Mattoon, to Elmer and Ruth Ann (Sullender) Sanders. He was a devoted family man. John married the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" (Lichauer) Sanders, on July 30, 2005, becoming a beloved husband and father. John was a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated Uptown Variety in Windsor for nine years. His work was more than a profession; it was a passion that allowed him to engage with his community. He also enjoyed working the concession stands for the Windsor School sporting events, relishing the interactions with the children and their families. His dedication to his community was further demonstrated through his membership at the New Life Church in Sullivan. Beyond his professional and community commitments, John was an individual who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a particular love for the Smoky Mountains, a place he frequently traveled to, immersing himself in its natural beauty and tranquility. These trips provided an opportunity for him to reflect, recharge, and return to his community and family with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

John is survived by his wife, Patty; his daughter, Karissa Sanders; his bonus children, Zach and Cassey Salsiccia, Nathan (Cheree) Black, Glenn (Margaret) Smith, Jesse (Stephanie) Smith, and Kaleb (Asha) Smith; and his sister, Connie (Jeff) King. He was also a cherished uncle to his nephew, Cory (Michelle) King, his nieces, Kendra (Josh) Fabian and Tia (Raymond) Horn, two great-nephews and one great niece. His life was further enriched by several bonus grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth Ann.
