Ruth E. Elliott, 90, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 in Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.

Ruth was born on April 18, 1933, the daughter of Granville and Maurine (Smith) Hodson. Ruth married Ralph “Deacon” Elliott on February 12, 1965 and he survives.

She is also survived by her three children, Michael Elliott of Shelbyville, IL, Brenda (Gary) Alward of Moweaqua, IL, and Gary Elliott of Sullivan, IL; stepdaughters, Cindy Wortham and Diana Hise, both of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren, Shawn Elliott, Chad Elliott, Sarah Hernandez, and Matthew Alward; two step-grandchildren, Erich Elliott and Donald Hise; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Joan Banning and Emma Nelle Bates, both of Shelbyville, IL and Doris Soldner of Effingham, IL and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, where she taught Sunday School and served on the Church Council. She and Ralph also served as janitors in the Church for several years. She worked in Springfield at the Secretary of State Office for 17 years. After retiring from Springfield, she worked 23 years at Shelby County Land Title Office. In her last years of working, she was a legal assistant for Attorney, William Turner. She officially retired when she was 80 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Ben and Esther Elliott; sister, Kathaleen Licklider; brother, Robert Hodson; daughters-in-law, Linda Elliott and Susan Elliott; and her beloved dog, Banjo.

At her request, there will be no services at this time. Ruth will be cremated and buried at a later date in Windsor Cemetery with her husband and beloved dog, Banjo.
