Ronald Franklin Brown, 86, of Herrick, affectionately known as Ron, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 4, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 26, 1937, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Ray and Edna (Mochel) Brown, Sr. Ron was a man of many talents and a strong work ethic. He labored as a Concrete Finisher for Local 318 for 33 years, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his craft. His talents didn't stop there, as he was also a lifelong farmer and a gifted mechanic. Ron's handy and hardworking nature was well-known and respected by all who knew him. Beyond his professional life, Ron was a devoted family man and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His warm smile and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his family and community. Ron was always glad to lend a hand, and his helpful nature extended beyond his family to his neighbors and friends. A lover of the outdoors, Ron found great joy in hunting and the peaceful solitude it offered.

Ron is survived by his children, Cindy (Ronnie) Smith, Gary (Kris) Brown, Terry (Rhonda) Brown, Susan (Jack) Garmon, and Jason (Keri) Brown. He was a proud and caring grandfather to Trent Smith, Brandon Adams, Tasha McAdams, Justin Brown, Jared Brown, Shayanna Ooton, Addison Brown, Brianna Eaton, Brett Garmon, and Brittany Hardy. Ron was a dear brother to Marjorie Hubner and leaves behind several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth, who passed away just two months prior, and his brother, Ray Brown Jr.

Please join the family to honor a life well lived. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville with Pastor Nick Robertson officiating. The family will greet friends and family from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorials may be made in Ron’s name to the Kaskaskia Church, 1845 E 2700 Avenue, Beecher City, IL 62414 where he was a long-time member. Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the in-home caregivers who provided Ron with the utmost care and compassion in his final days. Their dedication and support allowed Ron to remain in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, and for that, they are eternally grateful. Ron lived a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to his family. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
