Rockney L. Weber, 76 of Effingham, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 10, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice. 

Rockney was born January 8, 1947 in Effingham, the son of Charles V. and Adeline (Esker) Weber. In 1969, he graduated college from Indiana State. Rockney married Nila S. Schniederjon on January 25, 1969. Together they spent the next eight years in St. Louis while Rockney worked for Price Waterhouse.

After graduating from John Marshall Law School in January of 1979, he began his career with Schniederjon Law Firm, until his retirement in 2012. Rockney served on the board at the Effingham Country Club and Washington Savings Bank for many years.

Over the years he enjoyed many outdoor activities including golfing, fishing, and hunting. For several years he was involved with field trialing earning two national titles with his dog "Brandy's Black Matt", which was also inducted into NSTRA's Hall of Fame.

Rockney is survived by his wife, Nila of Effingham; son, Matthew Weber of Edwardsville; daughter; Jennifer (Greg) Billhartz of St. Louis; grandchildren, Grace Billhartz, Evan Billhartz, Liam Billhartz, Sydney Weber, and Carson Weber; brothers, Mark (Pauline) Weber of Teutopolis and Jeff (Kathy) Weber of Godfrey; sister, Karen Weber Caravella of Teutopolis and sister-in-law, Nancy Weber of Teutopolis. 

Rockney was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mel Weber.
