Delmar E. Hudson (94) of Cowden

Delmar E. Hudson, 94, of Cowden, IL, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Antonio Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Cowden United Methodist Church.

Delmar was born on October 11, 1928 in Cowden, IL, the son of Roscoe “Pearl” and Alta May (Hall) Hudson. He graduated from Cowden High School in the Class of 1946. Delmar was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He married Betty June Smith on December 27, 1951. He worked at Caterpillar in Decatur as a millwright, for over 30 years. Delmar also farmed the family farm with his father and later with his two sons. He was a skilled carpenter and built many homes. Delmar was known to “straddle the rafters” well into his 80’s and enjoyed fixing things for others. He was a member of the Cowden United Methodist Church. Delmar loved his family and enjoyed gathering them at his home for a meal and an occasional softball game. He cherished life on the farm, as it gave him peace and fulfillment.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Larry Hudson (Diane) of Decatur, IL and Michael Hudson (Sharon) of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie Hudson, Joshua Hudson (Erin) and Nicole Hudson; great grandchildren, Chandler Hudson, Mykaela Hart, Cheyenne Gregurich, Halle McCay, Nova Gregurich, Addison Hudson, Alex Hudson; and great great grandchildren, Lincoln Hart and Lainey Hart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Velma Hudson.
